The Michael Kenwood Foundation is developing a series of in-house programs that will complement and facilitate the work of other organizations supported by MKF. Our programs aim to foster personal growth and fulfillment, improve living conditions, and promote social development in communities all over the world. Some of these projects are already underway or ready for implementation in the near future:
1. Democracy in America --An educational challenge for children and for all citizens that will encourage greater and more active participation in the democratic process, increase awareness and appreciation of our democratic system, and foster enhanced recognition of voting rights. 2. Family-friendly Entertainment Resources --Supporting authors, illustrators, filmmakers, television producers, computer game designers, and other creators who produce high-quality material containing positive and inspiring role models, thoughtful and thought-provoking storylines, and well-informed analysis. 3. Young Photographers --The dire poverty of much of the world affects children the most. Kids are neither equipped nor often helped in their struggles for survival. Children who have it easier can benefit from coming face to face with this dilemma and trying to identify with those who are less fortunate. MKF will host contests between young artists, ages 13 to 18, to photograph the poorer areas of their cities in whatever way they feel best. MKF also helps sponsor the artists through student grants and assistance in launching their careers and carrying out their work. 4. Innovating for the Environment -- a series of creative initiatives that aim to achieve measurable improvements, while fostering increased awareness of environmental issues. The pilot project of our environment program is "3 Million Trees," with the goal of planting three million trees --one per class, in every classroom, K through 12, in every school in the United States-- by the end of the first phase.
